Bianca and I volunteered to join the Hair Aid team.

On the 18th to 26th August we went to Cambodia to teach hair cutting.

So Bee an I got there and Back home ok and had the most amazing experience. Hard to sum it up. Have come back with mixed emotions and an adventure to remember. The most amazing connections and friendships to last a lifetime. I will be going back next year for sure.
I also may have got an apprentice. Emalee (pictured next to Bee in the first pic below) is only 17 and has been working in her family salon for years. This was her 2nd Hair Aid trip and for such a young girl she has an amazing attitude to life, work and family. Em will be coming in every Thursday night to see if shes happy at Endorphin Hair and if all goes well I will put her on as an apprentice next year.

We also had a celeb on our team. Tabatha Coffey. Although I was a little starstruck at first once I got to know Tabatha shes actually very humble and down to earth and was a great Team player.
Bee Em and I were on the Country team in stung Treng. We had stuart as well who had his wife in one of the city teams. We also had Candy, Danii and Paul on team 2. A different location to us but all stayed together at the same place at night. A 6 hr drive from Phnom Penh. the countryside was beautiful although covered with rubbish and pollution. At 99% humidity my hair didn’t stand a chance. We were asked not to wear makeup, jewelry and keep hair simple. Mostly so no attention was drawn and also so our students could focus on the training.
We had some very keen students that did really well and we were so proud on graduation day. Their determination proved that anything is possible.
We had 31 Graduates. All up with all the Cambodia teams we had 154 Graduates in total. This is life changing for them. It gives them hope for the future, some much needed confidence and a skill they will now have forever. This will open up new opportunities either for work or even to just save money doing family’s hair.
I would love to thank everyone who has supported us with this 2018 Cambodia project. Your encouragement and donations has made this all possible. Without you all Hair Aid projects wouldn’t happen.
This experience by far has been an emotional roller coaster but has been totally worth it and I will do it all again. I look forward to sharing with you all when I see you.
I’m so proud to be a part of the Hair Aid Family. xx

High Tea for Hair aid

Bianca and Bron from Endorphin Hair will be going to Cambodia with a team of hairdressers to teach community members how to do basic haircuts so then they will have a sustainable income. The fundraiser is to raise awareness and fund to buy the kits etc needed to get there. We are having a High tea to help fund raise. https://hairaidhighteajunebron.eventbrite.com.au

We are a sustainable salon

WindowSticker1GET A HAIRCUT AND HELP SAVE THE PLANET

You may be surprised to learn that the Australian hairdressing industry sends 1,500 tons of recyclable aluminium back to landfill each year. That’s one and a half million kilos, about 715 cars, or 4 jumbo jets! Unfortunately aluminium doesn’t degrade easily, it actually contaminates the soil for 500 years. Add to this the waste of plastics, colour tubes, cut hair and more, and you soon see that beauty at any price is no longer an option.

After joining Sustainable Salons Australia (SSA), we at Endorphin Hair  is set to change all this.

Endorphin Hair now recycles 95% of its waste by using the comprehensive resource recovery service offered by Sustainable Salons Australia. “We are committed to sustainable growth that encourages social responsibility and respect for the planet. This simple initiative can make all the difference to what was once landfill waste become a future resource”.

Rather than contaminating the waterways, excess shampoo and hair colour waste now go to a chemical recycler. Plastics are also recycled into construction material and gardening equipment.

What’s more, Endorphin Hair  staff love that the proceeds from recycling benefit the community through several programs. Every kilo of recycled aluminium helps Oz Harvest fund four meals for the homeless. Ponytails go to the Variety Charity to provide wigs to children with alopecia, while cut hair is made into booms used to absorb oil spills.

As clients become more aware of the impact products have on the environment, they have also welcomed the opportunity to make a difference.

“The hairdressing industry needs to take action now, and take care of the environment as much as we take care of clients”, says Paul Frasca, co-founder of SSA. Endorphin Hair really cares about making their salon as eco-friendly as possible. When we looked at what we could do to become more sustainable both ecologically and economically, Sustainable Salons Australia was the obvious choice.”

By joining Sustainable Salons Australia, Endorphin Hair  is happy it can support charities and benefit the community, while also taking care of a huge waste problem.
